Classic Cranberry Sauce

This Sauce is so easy to make that I make it ahead of time and have it ready for all of our Thanksgiving dinners! It's one of my favorite things with turkey. I always at least double this, some years its quadrupled.

Classic Cranberry Sauce

Ingredients

1 Orange Zest and juice

1 1/2 lbs fresh cranberries (frozen cranberries would work too)

1 cup sugar

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1 fresh cinnamon stick

Method:

Use a peeler to remove the zest from the orange in wide strips, leaving the bitter white pith behind. Juice the orange.

In a  small to medium sized saucepan over medium heat, stir together the cranberries, sugar, orange zest and juice, cinnamon stick, cinnamon and 3 Tbs. water. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries begin to pop and the sauce thickens, 20 to 25 minutes. Remove the orange zest pieces and cinnamon stick.

Move the cranberry sauce to a serving bowl or let it cool, then transfer into an airtight container and refrigerate until serving. Serve cold, warm or at room temperature.  Serves 6
